There’s always lots of moving pieces in life.  Home responsibilities.  Work responsibilities.  Relationship responsibilities.  Some weeks it’s easy to feel like we’re on top of the world, and the very next week it can feel like the world is crumbing down… right on top of us.  Been there, done that; and I know you have, too.

And, I know that what we also know is that it doesn’t stay that way.  Life doesn’t stay buried on top of us like that forever.  Sure, we can have an overwhelming week or month or even year.  But, it doesn’t have to stay that way.  Life and the world around us are going to shift and change, and we need to be there to shift and change with it.  There’s no need to stay stuck in anything that’s not moving us forward.  Easier said then done… yeah, maybe.  Sometimes it takes work to get over that hump, but it’s work well-worth doing.  Here are five tips to help you make moves.

Get out.  Don’t let yourself stay trapped indoors.  I know there are days when it feels great to just lounge around at home and bask in the greatness of your couch or bed.  But, don’t let that be the norm for you.  The great outdoors really does have something great to offer you, so get out there.  Take a walk.  Go on a bike-ride.  Or just sit and stare at the world around you.  There’s healing to be had in being outside with nature.  Get out there.

Write.  Sometimes we just need to get things off our chest.  Sometimes it helps to talk to others, while other times just writing out our thoughts can be helpful.  Put pen to paper – or fingers to keyboard – and see what happens.  Let the thoughts that are trapped in your head out; give them a new home.  Journal.  Write a story.  Simply brainstorm ideas.  Make moves – write.

Move your body.  I’m a dancer.  Okay, let me clarify…  Not a professional dancer – nowhere near that, but I like to dance.  I think it’s a lot of fun.  It’s also a release for me.  I can get lost in dancing for hours if I’m able to.  And, you know, I just feel good after dancing – it gives me energy in ways I can’t explain.  You don’t need to go out to dance – turn up the music in your living room and move your body.  Let yourself feel alive through movement; let go – no one’s watching.

Let go.  Ah, that’s a big one.  Sometimes there are things in our lives that we need to let go of.  They linger over us like a huge dark cloud, and weigh us down like weights on both of our shoulders.  There are some things in life that hurt and don’t feel good, and are not easy to get over.  But, we have to try to move on when it’s no longer serving us to stay weighed down by negative emotions.  If there’s something that’s coming to mind for you right now, get clear on what it is that you need to let go of and commit to finally letting it go.

Love yourself.  Sometimes what we need most is a little – or a lot – of self-love.  At times, we can be our own worst enemy and we can make it so hard on ourselves that it doesn’t make any sense.  Back-off; give yourself space to be you and love who you are.  There’s no one else on this earth like you – no one!  How incredible is that?  There are literally billions and billions of people in the world, and there’s no one who is like you.  You’re here for a reason.  Give energy to your greatness and live from that.  Love yourself for who you are and give the world that fully.

What else comes to mind for you?  What other ways can you get over the hump that’s holding you back?  Share your ideas and thoughts in the comments.
